An emergency warning for a bushfire has been issued for residents in the Port Stephens area, north of Newcastle.
The bushfire has burnt 1509 hectares of land in the Tomago, Williamtown and Raymond Terrace with residents urged to seek shelter as the fire approaches.
Southerly winds have moved the fire north as firefighters continue to try and control the blaze.
The fire, which is burning close to Newcastle Airport, has forced the cancellation of all Jetstar flights to and from the airport on Sunday afternoon.
"We are experiencing further disruptions to flights at Newcastle Airport due to high winds and the developing bush fire situation nearby," Newcastle Airport posted on its Facebook page on Sunday afternoon.
